UMT’s consulting work sits at the crossroads between strategy and operations and we help Fortune 500 firms make their business strategy a reality by building holistic solutions focused on process, technology and people. What I like best about UMT are the people who work here, as well as our Fortune 500 clients. Our people are thought leaders in operations management consulting who enjoy sharing their knowledge with clients and peers. UMT makes it a point to focus on building a solid team and this is manifested in various social activities scattered throughout the year: annual holiday party, quarterly volunteering events, ski trips, game nights, bowling, barbeques, special anniversary celebrations, such as our recent 25th anniversary, etc. What differentiates UMT is that new hires are given the tools and opportunity to quickly hit the ground running and become valued team members who make a tangible impact for clients early on. It is a merit based rather than a seniority based environment where if you have a smart idea or solution, you are given the chance to make that a reality. Every employee is highly visible from the moment they join our team. UMT believes in staff growth from within and many of the Partners and Senior Management Team are homegrown talent. UMT has helped me grow professionally by giving me the chance to advise decision makers in Fortune 500 clients on how to operationalize their business strategy. The fact that UMT’s projects last at least one year, has also given me the chance to lead the client step-by-step and experience the final result as they go through their operational transformation which is extremely gratifying.
I joined UMT’s NYC office as an entry-level Consultant after graduating from Columbia University with a Masters in International Finance and Business. My prior background and experience in banking and financial services and solid understanding of emerging markets helped me add value to international UMT clients in the areas of financial management for capital projects. While at UMT, I’ve had the chance to work with Fortune 500 clients and lead cross-functional teams in financial services, telecoms, pharmaceuticals and consumer goods. My work also gave me the invaluable opportunity to travel extensively in Europe, Asia and the Americas. The solutions I provided for my clients covered PMO design, resource capacity management, business intelligence, capital optimization, change management, business process transformation among others. As I grew through the ranks at UMT I became first a member of the Future Leadership Team where most internal improvement projects are originated and managed, and then the Senior Management Team. I became a passionate advocate for corporate-wide coaching and mentoring, as well as the advancement of women in consulting. Today I lead the UMT Corporate Mentorship Program and chair Women@UMT, an employee resource group.
This was a multi-year initiative which ended up being rolled out globally and became the backbone of how the client plans, approves, tracks and optimizes their annual capital budget globally. During the course of the project, the client went through numerous organizational restructuring, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, but UMT remained a trusted strategic partner and was able to continuously add value to the client organization. My proudest day at UMT was when my client of several years finally concluded that now I can read his mind and propose solutions even before he requests them. That day I knew I had won his trust and the hard work had paid off.
