Focus on the Bottom Line:

Oil and Gas Major focused on exploration and production makes IT application development 200% more business-relevant with APM.
Using the right principles, processes, and technology – the organization navigated through a major shift in strategy and rationalized an IT application portfolio landscape.

A major global, oil and gas company with operations and activities in more than 30 countries, decided to divest its downstream assets to become exclusively focused on exploration and production. Ensuring a successful future in this leaner incarnation required the entire company moving in the same direction to deliver strong, predicable returns on proven and unproven reserves. All this, in the face of challenges related to cost and pricing pressures of a single commodity, operational complexity, health and safety, and increased risk from activities in more remote and extreme environments.
The shift in strategy also meant converting the Information Technology strategy to be upstream-aligned rather than downstream. Correctly managing IT applications, which continue to touch more parts of the organization, would be critical to minimizing the company’s risk exposure. Application development projects could not continue to under-deliver due to misaligned schedules, cost overruns, and failures to meet expected benefits.
